Our primary role revolves around fostering a deeper understanding of, advocating for, and facilitating progression of sustainable finance initiatives in Malta.

FinanceMalta, a non-profit public-private initiative, was set up to promote Malta as an international business and financial centre within, as well as outside, Malta.
FinanceMalta brings together and harnesses the resources of the industry and government to ensure Malta maintains a modern and effective legal, regulatory and fiscal framework in which the financial services and fintech sector can continue to grow and prosper.
Given Malta's strategic location and its significant maritime resources, sustainable finance can be channeled into the development of the blue economy. This includes investments in sustainable fisheries, marine conservation projects, and the promotion of responsible maritime practices.
Malta, being a popular tourist destination, can leverage sustainable finance to support eco-tourism initiatives and conservation projects. Investing in the preservation of natural habitats, promoting sustainable tourism practices, and supporting local businesses that adhere to environmentally friendly standards can contribute to the long-term conservation of Malta's unique ecosystems while fostering responsible tourism.
Sustainability is a global priority spanning various industries. For Malta's financial services, it's both a necessity and an opportunity. Despite its size, Malta must strategize to maximize returns and benefits locally and globally in this sector.

The MSE, alongside Malta's regulatory bodies, has developed markets for green bonds, REITs, wholesale debt securities, ISMs, ETFs, and a Centralised Securities Depository. These complement the MSE’s main stock and bond listings, its Green Market, and the Prospects MTF targeting small and medium businesses seeking funding and growth.

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) is the single regulator of financial services in Malta. It is also the Resolution Authority. The MFSA regulates banking, financial institutions, payment institutions, insurance companies and insurance intermediaries, investment services companies and collective investment schemes, securities markets, recognised investment exchanges, trust management companies, company services providers and pension schemes. Since 2018, it is also responsible for regulating Virtual Financial Assets.
